A new collection of essays explores the "enduring fascination" of the femme fatale from mythology through to Hollywood and world cinema. The Femme Fatale: Images, Histories, Contexts, edited by researchers from the universities of Bristol and Exeter, looks at how the idea has transcended history and even dates back to Eve in the Garden of Eden - the "ultimate temptress". Film stars including Rita Hayworth and Zhang Ziyi are the focus of other chapters that aim to unpick the relationship between the on-screen femme fatale and the off-screen attitudes and cultural dynamics she embodies.
