College managers have been most exercised by issues of governance, staff contracts and discipline and grievances, according to a survey of calls to the Association of Colleges helpline.

The AoC received almost 5,000 calls in 1999 - 374 relating to governance issues, including questions about new probity and accountability rules. There were 334 calls about contractual terms and 321 about discipline and grievance matters.
