Aggressive winners

Men are more likely to engage in alcohol-fuelled violence after rugby matches if their team wins. This unexpected conclusion was reached by Cardiff's Violence Research Group after surveying rugby fans entering and leaving Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Jonathan Shepherd, one of the authors of the study, published in the journal Criminal Behaviour and Mental Health , said: "The aggression may be to do with the fact that supporters feel invincible and that their status and power have been increased and so they then go off into town, or home, feeling like the king of the castle. They feel confident and so become more likely to challenge someone or to react if challenged."
