Degree course dropped as science is shunned

Staffordshire University has become the latest to drop its undergraduate pure chemistry degrees, blaming falling applications. UCAS figures showing applications up to December 15 1998, reveal a big decline in science applications, with chemistry applications down 9.2 per cent on last year.
