Food science industry starved of recruits

Falling numbers of students pursuing food science in British universities are putting the industry at risk, an expert panel has warned.

Alastair Robertson, chairman of the Institute of Food Research and member of the Foresight Food Chain and Crops Industry Panel, said that food science is being starved of recruits due to a lack of food science school tuition and the discipline's poor image. The panel will report in November.
