New jobs are in the pipeline at Northampton University thanks to the Government's house-building plans.

The institution, which is advertising in this week's Times Higher , hopes to benefit from plans by John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister, to house more people in the region.

The university wants student numbers to rise from the current 9,600 to 13,000 by 2010. The institution, which gained university status this summer, has also planned an ?80 million building programme.

This week's advert offers a range of posts including a lectureship in footwear and accessories, and posts in performance studies.
