Russians accuse US student of spying
A United States student, John Edward Tobin, who was detained in Voronezh two months ago for possession and sale of drugs, has been charged with espionage. Russian investigators claim that before going to Russia, Tobin was trained at a military intelligence establishment and while in Voronezh had secretly recorded conversations with university professors and local politicians.

Malaysia expands higher education
Every Malaysian state will have a university by 2002 following cabinet approval of a plan to establish four technology-based institutions of higher education. Three universities will be set up in Pahang, Malacca and Perlis, while Kuala Lumpur’s Kolej Universiti Islam Malaysia will move to a new campus in Negri Sembilan.
