Supercomputer goes online
A supercomputer capable of 10 billion calculations a second was being officially switched on today. The ?1.4 million Cosmology Machine was being unveiled at Durham University’s physics department by trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt.
Bath offers discount masters
Bath University has developed a "bulk buying discount" scheme to encourage students to enrol on its masters programmes. It is offering employers discounts of up to 15 per cent on fees for its distance-learning MSc courses in construction management.
Hefce invites tech institute proposals
Universities and further education colleges are invited to submit collaborative bids for technology institutes that come with ?25 million in capital funds. The Higher Education Funding Council for England will be taking bids from consortia.
