Intellectual property advisory committee launched
The government has set up an intellectual property advisory committee to provide long-term strategy advice on issues such as patents and copyright.

Bid to avoid water-supply crisis
Academics from around the world are meeting at Dundee University today in a bid to head off a looming crisis over international water supplies. More than 220 academics will discuss ways to avoid conflict now that about 300 major waterways are shared by more than one state.

?1.35 billion boost for school sixth forms
The Learning and Skills Council will distribute ?1.35 billion to school sixth forms next year and will offer a “real-terms guarantee” to protect future funding. Education secretary Estelle Morris said that school sixth forms had a crucial role in widening post-16 learning opportunities.
