The Government has rejected the Commons Education and Skills Committee's concerns over the European Commission involvement in the Bologna Process to harmonise university qualifications across Europe. In its report on the process, issued in April, the committee said there was "little constraint on what the European Commission may do voluntarily in the area of education", which threatened the UK's autonomy. The Government's response, published this week, said it did not believe there was cause for concern over the Commission's role. But it shared the committee's concerns over the European credit transfer system. It said the ECTS should better reflect learning outcomes, rather than just hours of study and student workload.
