Wellcome gives fillip to Irish medicine

BIOMEDICAL research in Ireland has been boosted by the Wellcome Trust's decision to provide up to Pounds 1 million for "new blood" fellowships, equipment grants and start-up grants for lecturers in 1997/98. The trust will also give a further Pounds 2 million over the following two years for Health Research Board schemes. Wellcome's commitment is conditional on additional matching funds from the Irish government.
