Founded in 1983 as part of Agostinho Neto University, the Instituto Superior de Ci¨ºncias da Educa??o de Luanda became an autonomous public university in 2009 following higher education reforms introduced by the Angolan government.
It is located in Belas, within the province of Luanda, and has an additional campus in the city of Luanda.
The university specialises in training teachers, school leaders and education researchers, playing a vital role in Angola¡¯s efforts to rebuild and strengthen its education system. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a broad range of disciplines.
At undergraduate level, the university provides degrees in educational sciences with specialisations in pedagogy and psychology, alongside teaching degrees in history, sociology, philosophy, mathematics, Portuguese, African languages and literatures, and modern literature. Postgraduate master¡¯s programmes include educational sciences, mathematics teaching, history teaching, Portuguese and English language teaching, French, and training engineering.
Academic teaching and research are organised into eight departments covering areas such as teaching practice, African literatures, modern languages, social sciences, exact sciences and Portuguese language. The university operates under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation and is part of wider networks within Portuguese-speaking higher education.
