The Instituto Superior de Ciências de Educa??o do Sumbe started in 1999 as part of the Cuanza Sul University Hub. It is now part of Katyavala Bwila University and is a key centre for teacher training and education in Angola, based in the city of Sumbe.
It offers eight undergraduate degrees, such as psychology, mathematics and Portuguese language teaching, plus master’s programmes in preschool and primary education. Many of the teachers are highly qualified, with 18 holding doctorates and 26 holding master’s degrees.
The Instituto Superior de Ciências de Educa??o do Sumbe works not only on education but also on encouraging entrepreneurship, reducing poverty and sharing knowledge across Angola. Over 2,300 graduates work in education, and new doctoral programmes are being planned to boost research.
