About Lankaran State University

Basic information and contact details for Lankaran State University

institution

Lankaran State University (LSU) was established in 1991 as a branch of Baku State University and became an independent university the following year. Since then, LSU has grown into the leading centre of higher education in the Lankaran-Astara Economic Region, serving students from across the south of the country.

The university is located in Lankaran, a coastal city in southern Azerbaijan, known for its subtropical climate and scenic proximity to the Caspian Sea. These features have influenced the university’s academic focus, particularly in agriculture, ecology, environmental science, and regional development.

The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs through faculties including natural sciences, humanities and pedagogical sciences, economics, and information technologies. It maintains a strong emphasis on practical training and research, supporting students through modern labs, specialised facilities, and participation in international projects.

Faculty and students regularly take part in cultural events, scientific conferences, and regional development initiatives.
