About the Job

The PR and Communications Manager is a key role within the University’s PR team, responsible for acting as the strategic partner and PR lead for 1-2 academic Schools. You will be responsible for proactively generating positive media coverage by embedding yourself in your School to identify, craft, and pitch press releases and stories that highlight UEL’s research and impact to national and international media.

You will have a strong understanding of the news agenda, proven success in media relations and a network of existing media contacts (ideally within health, business or law). This role requires a strategic mindset, excellent communication skills and expertise in leveraging social and digital platforms to amplify media coverage and storytelling.

This is a highly visible role requiring positive engagement with a variety of stakeholders. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong collaborative relationships. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter and can produce results in a fast-paced work environment with a number of key priorities. This is a key role in promoting the University of East London across the media.

About you


	Demonstrated ability to design, implement and measure high-impact PR strategies that successfully generate positive, proactive media coverage for complex subjects (e.g., research)
	Exceptional skill in translating complex, academic information into captivating, accurate and audience-specific written communications, including thought leadership, opinion pieces, press releases, and compelling digital content
	Clear ability to design and implement effective strategies across social media and internal communications, ensuring PR content is amplified to maximise reach, engagement and reputation
	Strong existing media contacts (preferably within the health, business or law sectors) coupled with a proactive, proven ability ?to build and nurture new relationships with key national and international journalists

The Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs (Bell School) is a world-leading centre for research, education, and policy analysis on international and Asia Pacific politics, security, diplomacy, and strategic affairs. The Opportunity
The position has been established to support DPA’s teaching contribution to the Bell School’s Bachelor of Asia Pacific Affairs (BAPA). Located in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, BAPA is an innovative undergraduate dual-degree program between ANU and Ritsumeikan University in Japan. Students study at both ANU and Ritsumeikan’s Osaka Ibaraki Campus (OIC) and are taught by academic staff from both institutions in English. On successful completion, students receive separate degrees from both institutions. The program was launched in 2019, and has a cohort of students primarily from Australia, Japan, and the wider Asia Pacific region. The lecturer position will teach ANU courses as part of the delivery of the BAPA program at OIC. The role is based at ANU, Australia, but it is part of the job requirement that the successful incumbent of this position will be available to teach for up to 4 months at Ritsumeikan University in Japan each year.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an early to mid-career scholar with a strong record of teaching and research in Pacific studies, political science, development studies, or a related field. They will have expertise in areas aligned with the Department’s specialisations, such as governance, development, security, or social inclusion in the Pacific region. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about engaging diverse undergraduate and graduate student cohorts, able to work collaboratively across disciplines, and committed to contributing to the Department’s teaching, research, and intellectual community. A demonstrated ability to supervise research students and to develop a strong research agenda that advances understanding of Pacific state, society, and governance is highly desirable.

About the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Education Engagement team in a dynamic and impactful role. As a Senior Education Engagement Officer, you will coordinate and deliver industry and community engagement programs that enhance student learning experiences. This is an exciting new opportunity to contribute to the early years (1 &2) of undergraduate medical education for students on the BM4/5/6/EU medical degree programmes with a focus on the primary care elements; early clinical examination, practical skills, communication and multidisciplinary team working as part of a new revalidated course. This is a specialist role for a 24 month project to help with the development , delivery and resources of a new element of the curriculum and will inform the revalidation project team about the development and use of similar/further roles going forwards.

On the BM4/5 programme, students study at one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals – Southampton General Hospital – and at purpose-built Life Sciences facilities on campus. The BM6 programme is designed to widen participation in medicine. Students on the BM(EU) programme study alongside BM5 students in Southampton for the first two years before returning to Kassel in Germany for the majority of their final three years.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop an educational portfolio that includes leadership, teaching, curriculum design and assessment in the early years of the primary care components of BM4/5/6/EU programmes.
