Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) is Bangladesh’s oldest institution dedicated to agricultural education. Its history dates back to 1938 when it was established as the Bengal Agricultural Institute, founded by Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Huq. It became the East Pakistan Agricultural Institute in 1947, and later the Bangladesh Agricultural Institute after independence in 1971. In 2001, it was granted full university status.

The university is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh’s capital and most populous city, well known for its bustling markets and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The campus spans roughly 87 acres in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, central Dhaka, amid green fields and research farms. Facilities include labs, student halls, a fully-equipped library, and practical training facilities for agriculture and veterinary education.

SAU’s vision is to ensure national food security and foster rural prosperity. Its teaching is closely aligned with applied agricultural innovation and community engagement.

The university is comprised of four faculties: Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, and Fisheries, Aquaculture and Marine Science.
