As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.?

The primary responsibility of this role is to support and contribute to an industry innovation research project. The Research Engineer will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and the research team to develop deep learning-based computer vision algorithms and software for object detection, classification, and segmentation.

Key Responsibilities


	Participate in and manage the research project together with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely achievement of project deliverables.
	Undertake the following specific responsibilities in the project:
	i. Develop, train, and optimise deep learning models for object detection, classification, and segmentation using real-world datasets.
	ii.?Design and implement software modules to integrate the models into a working system prototype.
	iii. Perform data annotation.
	iv. Conduct experiments, analyse results, and iterate models for improved accuracy and efficiency.
	v. Prepare project documentation, technical reports, and academic publications.
	vi.?Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to technology transfer efforts.


Job Requirements

1. Possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in:


	Deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)
	Deep learning models (e.g., YOLO, U-Net, EfficientNet, ResNet, FPN, Fast R-CNN)
	Computer vision techniques and algorithms
	Python and relevant libraries (e.g., PyQt, OpenCV, NumPy, scikit-learn), particularly for developing Windows desktop application software incorporating deep learning models


2. Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering, or a related field.


	A Master’s or PhD degree in relevant areas will be advantageous.


3. Familiarity with the following areas is advantageous:


	Participation in Kaggle competitions, showcasing practical problem-solving and model development skills
	Model deployment (e.g., ONNX, TensorRT)
	Edge computing or embedded vision systems (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson Nano)
	Real-time processing and GPU acceleration
	Experience working on industry R&D projects

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to join the Department of Accounting within Monash Business School. The Department is particularly seeking to appoint a candidate with research and teaching experience in one of the following accounting disciplines: audit and assurance; information systems; digital technologies, performance measurement or management control systems.

As a Lecturer (Level B), the successful candidate will have an emerging publication record or demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality refereed journals, and record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment.?

As a Senior Lecturer (Level C), the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record of scholarly publications and/or impactful research, rich experience of excellent education delivery, and great leadership qualities including a collaborative approach to their work that signals their suitability for future senior academic roles.?

The role encompasses a broad range of academic responsibilities, including conducting high-quality research with publication in leading accounting journals and contributing to research projects, potentially in a leadership capacity. The Department of Accounting also supports interdisciplinary research with a significant impact on the profession, regulation and industry. The appointee will be actively involved in all aspects of teaching, from delivering lectures, tutorials, and workshops to developing course materials, coordinating programs, and administering assessments. They will supervise honours and postgraduate students across coursework and research projects. Engagement in professional activities, and participation in departmental and faculty governance, including committee work and strategic planning, are also essential components of the role.

About You

To be appointable to this role you will hold a doctoral qualification in Accounting or equivalent qualification, and will demonstrate research and education experience in one or more of the following disciplines: auditing, assurance, digital technologies, accounting information systems, performance measurement, or management control systems.

As a Lecturer you will have an emerging research profile demonstrated by a publication record or demonstrated potential to publish in high-quality refereed accounting journals. You will have a demonstrated record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment, and a proven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly and research activities.

As a Senior Lecturer you will demonstrate a strong research background with a sustained publication record in high-quality outlets. You will have led or contributed significantly to research projects, secured competitive external funding, and supervised postgraduate students to successful outcomes. A deep commitment to scholarly engagement is essential, along with proven teaching experience in the tertiary sector, including course coordination and curriculum development.?

At both levels of appointment, your ability to work both independently and collaboratively across academic and service settings, coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, will support productive relationships with students, colleagues, and external partners. The Division is looking for an experienced Associate Professor/Assistant Professor who will (1) conduct high-quality research in the state-of-the-art areas in industrial data science, control systems, smart engineering, blockchain, AIoT, wireless communication, smart city, and so on; (2) secure external competitive research grants in various funding bodies; (3) teach multiple subjects in both undergraduate-level and postgraduate-level programmes in data science areas focusing on industrial data sciences, blockchain, data sciences, artificial intelligence, etc.; (4) work on the promotions and admissions as well as the operations for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and (5) contribute to other administrative duties as required by the supervisors.

General Requirements

Candidates should have (i) a doctoral degree in a relevant data science, industrial engineering, computer engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, information engineering, or other relevant areas; (ii) a strong publication record and outstanding citation counts in the research areas; (iii) experience in applying for external grants and teaching relevant courses and relevant programme administrative experience will be advantages; (iv) good command of English and Chinese (including Mandarin). For the post of Associate Professor, six years of relevant experience in the tenure-track academic post should be required. The candidates with less experience will be considered as Assistant Professor.

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. About the position

As a Level A Associate Lecturer with a teaching-focused appointment, you will play a vital role in curriculum development, assist with subject coordination, teaching, assessment, and student support. Your responsibilities also include assisting with the administrative functions within the discipline and department, engaging in scholarly work relevant to the scholarship of learning and teaching, and providing academic support for departmental subjects. This may involve overseeing subject tutors, coordinating subjects, managing timetables and reporting, as well as supporting teaching and marking activities.

Guided by subject coordinators, you will deliver high-quality learning experiences through lectures, tutorials, and workshops, whether in-person, online, or blended modes. Emphasizing evidence-based approaches, you will evaluate initiatives to enhance the student experience and share best practices as part of La Trobe’s Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SOLT) community.
