Valle del Momboy University is a private, non-profit university in Valera, a city in Trujillo state that sits between the rivers Momboy and Motatán in north-western Venezuela.
It grew out of a department within Universidad Rafael Urdaneta in Maracaibo. In 1997, it became a university in its own right as a community-based institution with a focus on sustainable human development. It offers a range of qualifications from diplomas up to postgraduate level.
It has a Faculty of Engineering, a Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences, and a Faculty of Economic, Administrative and Management Sciences.
Among the undergraduate courses available are: systems analysis, systems engineering, computing, computer engineering, information systems, industrial administration, quality control, maintenance engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial technology. Outside the sciences and technology areas, there are programmes in business administration, public accounting, law, and political and administrative sciences.
Students may pursue master’s degrees in business administration, public management, and education.
There is a PhD programme in sustainable human development that is built around the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and promotes the generation of knowledge and solutions for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Through professional internships, the university aims to prepare students for the world of work. Students can work on their English skills in the language centre, and they may undertake a number of arts, sports and cultural activities via the Humanitas Centre.
